Aurélie Kapusta and Cédric Feschotte make the cover of the October 2014 issue of Trends in Genetics, for their ‘Feature Review’ article entitled “Volatile evolution of long non-coding RNA repertoires: mechanisms and biological implications”. In this article, the authors argue that the rapid turnover and diversification of long noncoding RNA genes, which may outnumber protein-coding genes in mammalian genomes, represent an important motor underlying trait variation and genetic innovation.
