Collaborations
The thriving scientific atmosphere for biological research at Utah arises
from an enthusiastic sense of community and dedication. There are no departmental
barriers to cooperation among the faculty and students. This has spawned
many different types of productive interactions between faculty members.
These include combined interdepartmental graduate recruitment and admissions,
teaching of interdepartmental courses, cooperation in teaching assistant
assignments, collaborative research, joint seminar programs and joint research-in-progress meetings. A selection of
our faculty's collaborations with faculty from other departments is presented
below.
Grants and research projects
- Forming and Patterning the Vertebrate Inner Ear with department
of Neurobiology and Anatomy
- Circadian Rhythm Genetics and Biology with departments of Neurology,
Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Neurobiology and Anatomy
- Ion Channel Physiology with department of Internal Medicine
- Genetic Epidemiology of Aging in Utah Pedigress with departments
of Internal Medicine and Psychiatry
- Identification of Genes Contributing to Longevity with departments

including Pathology, Oncological Sciences, Biology and Neurobiology
and Anatomy
- Family Blood Pressure Program, a large multi-center genetics study of high blood pressure and related conditions in multiple racial groups. Faculty from Human Genetics and Cardiovascular Genetics Research participate in this project.
Joint Publications
As a result of these research and grant collaborations,
our faculty have joint publications in numerous journals, including the
American Journal of Human Genetics, Nature Medicine, Human Molecular Genetics,
Genomics, Neurology, The Gerontologist, Journal of Biological Chemistry,
and others.
