The Quinlan lab combines genetics and genomics with computer science and machine learning to develop new ways of gaining insight into genome biology and the genetic basis of traits.  We tackle problems with practical importance to understanding genome variation and chromosome evolution. We are currently focused on improved software for interpreting human genomes to empower clinical treatment of both inherited and spontaneous human disease. Understanding genomes is an inherently hard problem; we develop new approaches to make genomic research easier.
